N37bn fraud Buharis Minister Umar Farouq breaks silence over Okwetes arrest

Sadiya Umar-Farouq, the former Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, has publicly refuted any association with the arrested contractor, James Okwete, who is under investigation for allegedly laundering N37 billion.

In her response on Monday, Umar-Farouq vehemently denied any knowledge of Okwete and affirmed her commitment to serving the nation with integrity. She stated, “James Okwete neither worked for, nor represented me in any way whatsoever. The linkages and associations to my person are spurious.”

Displaying resilience, the former Minister expressed her readiness to defend her actions when required, saying, “I remain proud to have served my country as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with every sense of responsibility and would defend my actions, stewardship, and programmes during my tenure whenever I am called upon to do so.”

Amidst the reports linking her to the EFCC’s investigation, Umar-Farouq has taken the step to enlist her Legal Team to explore avenues for seeking redress, emphasizing her refusal to engage in any form of media trial.

This forceful repudiation comes in the wake of mounting accusations, and Umar-Farouq’s strategic response underscores her determination to protect her reputation and integrity at all costs.
