A devastating road crash on the Kaduna-Abuja expressway has resulted in the loss of four lives and left 56 others with injuries, as confirmed by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kaduna Sector Command.
The fateful incident, which occurred at Sabon Sara village along the expressway, involved a trailer (Iveco) with registration number MKA 99YS, striking at approximately 03:30hrs. The rescue efforts were undertaken by the combined teams of RS1.113 Zhipe and RS1.17 Birnin Yero, in a bid to aid the victims.
Kabir Nadabo, the Sector Commander, highlighted that preliminary investigations unveiled overloading of goods and humans, as well as fatigue, as the leading factors contributing to the crash. The grim statistics revealed a total of 73 individuals involved in the harrowing event, with 59 individuals suffering injuries and 4 tragically losing their lives.
The injured have been swiftly transported to St. Gerard and AP Smart Hospitals in Kakuri for urgent medical attention. Mr. Nadabo emphasized the imperative need for the motoring public to strictly adhere to all road safety regulations, especially during the festive season, known for heightened travel activities.
Emphasizing the critical nature of the Kaduna state corridor, which serves as a vital link between the North and South, Mr. Nadabo underscored the FRSC’s proactive measures and grassroots initiatives.
