Retired Kaduna ECWA Pastor Abducted, Abductors Demand N1m Ransom

Gunmen have abducted retired Rev. Filibus Bamai of ECWA Church, Matuak Rimi, in Moro’a Chiefdom of Kaura Local Government Area of Kaduna State and are demanding a N1 million ransom for his release. The incident occurred on Sunday at 12:50 a.m. in his house shortly after his retirement at the age of 65.

During the abduction, the cleric was taken wearing only boxers, while his wife was severely beaten with a stick, sustaining a cut on her head and bruises on her back. The kidnappers initially demanded N5 million but later reduced the ransom to N1 million.

Efforts to raise the ransom money have commenced, with approximately N300,000 mobilized so far. Concerned individuals have called for increased security in the area to safeguard lives and properties, as the frequency of kidnappings in rural communities is escalating due to the inadequate security situation.

Just a week prior, Sunday Bage, a well-known farmer in Pari village in the Chawai chiefdom of Kauru Local Government of Kaduna State, was also abducted along with his wife, Listu. This distressing trend underscores the urgent need for enhanced security measures to combat such criminal activities.

Authorities, including the State Police, are being called upon to prioritize security in the region. Efforts to reach the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, for a statement were unsuccessful. The situation is intensifying, and swift action is imperative to ensure the safety of individuals living in these vulnerable areas.
