Nigeria Immigration Service Cracks Down on Corruption, Dismisses Corrupt Officers

The Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Kwara Command, Aminu Shamsuddin, issued a stern warning to officers, signaling a crackdown on corruption within the agency. He emphasized a zero-tolerance policy for bribery and corruption, highlighting that any personnel found engaging in such misconduct would face dismissal from the service.

Echoing Mr. Shamsuddin’s sentiments, Deputy Comptroller of NIS, Momoh Aliyu, emphasized the gravity of the directive during the passing out parade of 190 newly-recruited officers in Ilorin. He stressed the importance of upholding integrity and loyalty to the nation, underscoring the consequences of engaging in corrupt activities while executing their duties.

In his address, Mr. Shamsuddin extended a warm welcome to the new officers and urged them to demonstrate obedience, good conduct, and allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He outlined the induction process as the initial phase for the officers to acquire essential knowledge about the responsibilities associated with their roles in the NIS.

Furthermore, Mr. Shamsuddin disclosed the deployment plans for the new officers, indicating a two-week break before their assignment to different units within the command. He also revealed that the induction training, which commenced on September 5 in Ilorin, encompassed positions ranging from Immigration Assistant 3 (IA3) to Assistant Superintendent of Immigration 2 (ASI 2), with subsequent training scheduled at the three Immigration Training Schools (ITS) across the country, tailored to their respective ranks.

Emphasizing the post-training certification and the issuance of full uniforms, the comptroller delineated a pathway for the recruits to attain the status of full-fledged immigration officers. Notably, several new officers received awards of excellence during their training, underscoring the commitment to merit within the NIS.

As the NIS reinforces its anti-corruption stance and endeavors to foster a culture of accountability, the agency’s resolute actions to instill integrity and professionalism within its ranks set a pivotal precedent for law enforcement agencies across Nigeria.
