Amidst swirling rumors, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has vehemently refuted claims that its candidate, Muritala Yakubu Ajaka, withdrew the case from the Kogi State election petition tribunal contesting the outcome of the November 11 governorship election.

Following the declaration of Ahmed Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the victor by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), speculations surfaced that the SDP had conceded defeat and abandoned the legal battle. In response, the Director of New Media, Muri/Sam Campaign Council/SDP, Isaiah Davies Ijele, dismissed the news as false and urged the party’s supporters to disregard it.

In a statement released to journalists, Ijele unequivocally declared that the information was baseless and suggested that those spreading it were either irrationally incensed or suffering from delusional depression. He emphasized, “This is to inform our teaming supporters that Murtala Ajaka and the Social Democratic Party will not succumb to any pressure to stand down the case at the tribunal.”

Furthermore, the statement emphasized the party’s readiness to pursue the legal challenge, asserting that their legal team is fully prepared for the court proceedings within the prescribed legal timeframe. Ijele urged SDP members and supporters of Alhaji Murtala Ajaka to dismiss the unfounded rumors, attributing them to “failed politicians who could not prove their capacities and love for humanity when in power.”

The SDP’s resolute denial and commitment to continuing their legal pursuit are a significant development in the aftermath of the Kogi gubernatorial election, shaping the ongoing political landscape and solidifying the party’s stance against conceding defeat.
