In a somber announcement, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has declared a three-day mourning period to honor the passing of late Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu. Akeredolu’s untimely demise in the early hours of Wednesday has cast a shadow of grief over the state.
Governor Aiyedatiwa, in a statement released in Akure by his Chief Press Secretary, Prince Ebenezer Adeniyan, conveyed the decision to observe a period of mourning, accompanied by fasting and prayer. The mourning period is set to take place from Thursday, December 28, to Saturday, December 30, 2023.
During this time, all national flags will be flown at half-mast as a symbol of respect and reflection of the state’s collective mourning for a period of seven days. Additionally, the state government has suspended all official ceremonies as a mark of tribute to the departed leader.
To provide an avenue for the public to express their condolences, condolence registers have been opened at the Governor’s Office and the Government House in Akure, as well as at the State Liaison Offices in Lagos and Abuja.
In closing, Governor Aiyedatiwa offered a heartfelt prayer, “May the soul of our late leader rest in perfect peace, amen.”
