Ondo Declares 3-Day Mourning for Late Former Governor Akeredolu

Ondo State Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has proclaimed a three-day period of mourning to commemorate the passing of Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the former governor of the state. The late Akeredolu passed away in the early hours of Wednesday, prompting this solemn declaration of respect and honor.

In a statement released by Ebenezer Adeniyan, Chief Press Secretary to the governor, the mourning period, inclusive of fasting and prayer, will take place from Thursday, December 28 to Saturday, December 30, 2023. Additionally, Governor Aiyedatiwa has ordered all national flags to be flown at half-mast for seven days, reflecting the collective grief of the state.

Furthermore, the governor has suspended all state government ceremonies during this period of mourning. Condolence registers have been opened at the Governor’s Office, the Government House in Akure, and the State Liaison Offices in Lagos and Abuja.

“May the soul of our late leader rest in perfect peace, amen,” the governor expressed.

The announcement of this period of mourning serves as a poignant moment for Ondo State, as it remembers and pays tribute to the legacy of the former governor.
