Chelsea’s Levi Colwill Criticized by Hasselbaink for Costly Error in EPL Clash

The former Chelsea striker, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink, did not hold back in his criticism of Levi Colwill for a pivotal mistake in Wednesday’s Premier League showdown against Crystal Palace.

Despite Mykhailo Mudryk giving Chelsea the lead at Stamford Bridge, Michael Olise managed to snatch an equalizer for Crystal Palace just before halftime. The crucial goal came as a result of poor defensive work from Colwill, who left Olise unmarked at the back post, allowing him to fire past Chelsea goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic.

Ultimately, Noni Madueke secured a late penalty to give Mauricio Pochettino’s side a 2-1 victory over the visitors.

During his analysis on Amazon Prime, Hasselbaink expressed disappointment from a Chelsea perspective, stating, “If you look at what Colwill does, he goes and attacks the ball. He doesn’t have to. He gets underneath the ball. If he stayed in his position, he would have headed the ball away and Olise cannot take a touch. He is learning. Hopefully he learns from this mistake.”

The criticism from Hasselbaink shines a spotlight on the high-pressure environment of the English Premier League, where individual errors can have significant repercussions. As Colwill comes to terms with the aftermath of his error, the scrutiny serves as a reminder of the relentless nature of top-flight football and the importance of swift learning and growth in such a competitive arena.
