Nigeria Receives Seven Power Transformers to Enhance Electricity Supply

The Federal Government of Nigeria has recently announced the delivery of seven new power transformers to the Akangba 330/132kV transmission substation, a move aimed at bolstering the country’s electricity supply. This development was shared by Ndidi Mbah, the General Manager of Public Affairs at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN).

These newly acquired transformers, ranging in capacity from 60 megavolt-amperes to 100MVA, form part of the TCN/World Bank Power projects. The beneficiary substations include Alausa, Akoka, Itire, and Amuwo, all located in Lagos State.

In a statement, TCN revealed, “Seven new power transformers with capacities ranging from 60MVA to 100MVA and their accessories were recently delivered to Akangba 330/132kV Transmission Substation.” Furthermore, the transformers are expected to be distributed to various key substations, with some receiving multiple transformers to augment their operational capacity.

The installation of these transformers is anticipated to significantly augment the transmission capacity of the company. This development is in line with the Nigeria Electricity Transmission Project (NETAP), a TCN/World Bank initiative established in 2017 to address power supply challenges in the country with an estimated cost of $3.630 million.

The arrival of these power transformers marks a substantial step towards enhancing Nigeria’s power infrastructure, ultimately contributing to the nation’s economic growth and development.
