In a recent interview with talkSPORT, former Liverpool player Dean Saunders shared his advice for Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale. Saunders advised the England international to seek a transfer away from the club during the upcoming January transfer window.

Ramsdale, who was a standout in the PFA ‘Team of the Year’ last season, has found himself relegated to the bench at Arsenal, now playing second fiddle to David Raya. Despite his impressive track record, Ramsdale has only managed nine appearances in all competitions for the Gunners this season. His last Premier League appearance was in November during Arsenal’s 1-0 victory against Brentford, a match in which Raya was ineligible to play against his parent club.

Saunders, speaking candidly with Jamie O’Hara, expressed his views on Ramsdale’s predicament at Arsenal. He emphasized that the talented goalkeeper should not accept a mere bench role, stating, “He’s got to leave, he can’t sit there with his snood on every week looking as if he has just got a £3000 gas bill.”

Saunders, highlighting the ruthless nature of football at the highest level, stressed the importance of playing time for a player like Ramsdale. He pointed out that with strong competition for the goalkeeper position, an ambitious player should pursue opportunities elsewhere.

“Arsenal need two teams of good players to win the league and as a goalkeeper, there is only one position you can play. You have to sit there and swallow it. But they are queueing up for him, if I was him I would say, ‘Thanks very much, this is not for me.'”

Saunders’ advice comes amidst speculation about Ramsdale’s future at the club, with many suggesting a potential transfer could be on the horizon. As the January transfer window approaches, all eyes will be on Ramsdale and whether he will heed the advice of Saunders and seek a fresh start at a new club.
