The call for enhanced efforts in tackling insecurity reverberated as Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, charged 47 newly promoted Brigadier Generals to the rank of Major General of the Nigerian Army. The investiture ceremony, held at the Army Headquarters Command Officers’ Mess 1 in Abuja, saw Minister Matawalle emphasizing the need for exemplary leadership, particularly in the North West and other troubled regions.

In a statement by Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, the minister commended the officers’ dedication, courage, and hard work, underscoring their vital role in addressing the security challenges plaguing the nation. Stressing the significance of leading by example, inspiring subordinates, and fostering collaboration with other security agencies, Minister Matawalle underscored the gravity of the officers’ responsibilities in the current security landscape.

Speaking at the investiture, Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, extended felicitations to the elevated officers, acknowledging their competence, diligence, and loyalty as the foundation for their promotion. Recognizing the sacrifices of their spouses and families, the COAS urged the new Major Generals to expand their knowledge of diplomatic, economic, and political dynamics, emphasizing the responsibilities accompanying their elevated rank and their allegiance to the Nigerian constitution.
