Vice President Kashim Shettima recently made a solemn vow to tackle the reign of terror in South East Nigeria. Speaking at the launch of the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P) by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Shettima condemned the actions of self-serving criminals and individuals exploiting the region’s security challenges for their political agenda.

Shettima emphasized President Bola Tinubu’s deep concern for the economic devastation inflicted on the South East by non-state actors, and his determination to utilize all available resources to counter falsehoods and propaganda that threaten Nigeria’s unity. In his speech titled “Why We are all Umunna,” Shettima underscored Tinubu’s commitment to restoring peace in the region and ensuring that the economic sabotage perpetrated by non-state actors is brought to an end.

The Vice President also highlighted the urgent need for coordinated intervention to effectively address insecurity in the region, reassuring the people of the South East that the Tinubu administration will spare no effort in fulfilling its pledge to mitigate the inherited crisis.

Furthermore, Shettima stressed that the criminals disrupting peace in the South East do not represent the genuine interests of the Ndi-Igbo and the whole nation, and are operating in connivance with forces exploiting the situation for a dangerous political agenda. He emphasized that the administration will not allow the efforts of the nation’s heroes to be undone, and called for the involvement of the people in resolving the crisis.

Commending Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu for his initiative, Shettima emphasized the importance of community-led initiatives and stakeholder collaborations in ensuring lasting peace and security in the region.

In his remarks, Kalu articulated his vision for the Peace in South East Project, aiming to promote reconciliation, address the root causes of conflict, and empower communities for sustainable development.

The commitment of the Tinubu administration to quell the turmoil in the South East signifies a crucial step towards fostering unity, peace, and development in the region. As Nigeria grapples with the complex challenges of economic sabotage and security threats, the collaborative efforts of government, stakeholders, and community-driven initiatives like PISE-P are essential for achieving lasting peace and propelling the South East towards progress.

In conclusion, the resolve demonstrated by the Vice President and the collaborative vision articulated by Deputy Speaker Kalu underscore a shared commitment to address the multifaceted issues plaguing the South East, signaling hope for a brighter, more secure future for the region and the nation as a whole.
