The Minister of Sports Development, Sen. John Owan Enoh, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s unwavering support for the Super Eagles as they set their sights on clinching a fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title in Cote D’Ivoire in January 2024.
Speaking to journalists at the Ilorin International Airport, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to bolstering the team’s efforts following the release of a 25-man squad list by Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, for the upcoming tournament.
Enoh conveyed the presidency’s eagerness for a triumphant outing for the team, assuring that they would receive all necessary backing. He stated, “We are hoping that we are going to make the best out of it. We have the full backing of the president.”
Highlighting the significance of the potential victory, the minister underscored the pride and honor it would bring to the nation, especially considering that the Super Eagles’ last AFCON triumph was a decade ago in South Africa.
Additionally, Enoh disclosed that the Ministry of Sports Development is working tirelessly alongside the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to ensure meticulous planning and seamless execution for a successful tournament.
“With a resounding desire for success and the unwavering support of the Presidency, the Super Eagles of Nigeria are gearing up to showcase their prowess and determination on the continental stage,” he remarked. “The Ministry of Sports Development, in close coordination with the NFF, is dedicated to facilitating an environment conducive to the team’s success.”
As the anticipation builds for the AFCON 2024, the Super Eagles are poised to capitalize on the support and resources rallied by the Federal Government, with hopes of securing an unprecedented fourth AFCON title and making their mark on the international football stage.
