The Acting Chairman of Gwale Local Government Area in Kano State, Bashir Kasim Dandago, has invalidated a court order that restrained Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf from utilizing funds in the joint State/Local Government Account for constructing two bridges in the state.

Dandago, accompanied by six out of 10 councillors of the LGA, disavowed the court order obtained by the chairmen of the 44 local government areas of the state. He emphasized that the council does not support the actions of the suspended chairman who signed the lawsuit.

According to Dandago, the suspended chairman, Khalid Ishaq Diso, lacks the authority to participate in any decisions concerning the 44 local government chairmen due to his suspension by the State House of Assembly. Dandago reaffirmed the council’s full support for the governor’s use of the joint account for the bridge construction project.

He highlighted the suspended chairman’s alleged financial mismanagement, which led to his suspension by the House of Assembly. Additionally, Dandago pointed out a standing court order that prohibits Diso from acting as the Chairman of Gwale LGA, accusing him of impersonation due to his suspension.

The stance taken by the Acting Chairman, along with the majority of the councillors, reflects a significant divide within the local government leadership, raising questions about the use of public funds and the legitimacy of those involved in decision-making processes. This development is likely to intensify the ongoing power struggle and legal battles within the Kano State local government system.
