A successful collaboration between the Kogi State Police Command, the military, and local vigilantes has resulted in the rescue of 24 individuals who were kidnapped within the Adogo axis, under the Ajaokuta Local Government Area of the State on Friday, December 29, 2023.
The valiant efforts of the security agencies led to the safe recovery of the victims, as confirmed by the Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Mr. Bethrand Onuoha. The Commissioner highlighted the swift and effective action taken by the security forces in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP William Ovye Aya in Lokoja, obtained by Media Talk Africa on Sunday.
The statement narrated the sequence of events, stating that following the increase in kidnapping activities along the Ajaokuta-Adogo-Okene road, a combined team comprising the Area Commander Ajaokuta, ACP Ayodele Ola Arogbo, and personnel from the police, military, and local vigilantes, promptly responded to the situation. Their concerted efforts led to the rescue of three victims, including a student from the Comprehensive High School, Ajaokuta.
Furthermore, an additional tactical squad, including the Quick Response Unit, was deployed to bolster the rescue operation. Led by SP Sule Musa, the Divisional Police Officer of Ajaokuta Division, the team remained steadfast in their mission, ultimately ensuring the safe recovery of the remaining victims.
The courage and determination of the security team were put to the test when the hoodlums opened fire on them during a combing operation in the bush. However, the team’s superior firepower compelled the criminals to flee, abandoning their captives. As a result, 21 individuals, comprising 11 students and three teachers, were rescued unharmed. Efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects are ongoing.
The Commissioner of Police commended the unwavering commitment and bravery displayed by the security personnel, reaffirming the resolve to continue the relentless pursuit of criminal elements. Notably, a group known as Concerned Youths in Ajaokuta expressed their admiration for the efforts of ACP Ayodele Ola Arogbo and other security agencies, acknowledging the impact of their unwavering dedication in ensuring the safety of the local community.
This successful joint operation serves as a testament to the collective determination of security agencies and local stakeholders to confront and overcome the scourge of kidnapping, ultimately restoring a sense of security and peace to the region.
