Governor Dauda Lawal took a significant step towards fostering unity and reconciliation in Zamfara State by resolving a longstanding dispute that resulted in the closure of the Jumu’at mosque in Moriki Town, Zurmi Local Government. The mosque, one of the largest in the area, had been shuttered for over seven years due to a protracted conflict between two factions within the community.
Acknowledging the pivotal role of unity in building social cohesion and accelerating sustainable development, the governor’s intervention aimed to address the longstanding discord among the people. Governor Lawal, through his spokesperson Sulaiman Idris, emphasized the imperative for the state government to intervene, taking proactive measures to alleviate factors contributing to disunity.
The governor mandated the Ministry of Religious Affairs to embark on the construction of a new mosque for the aggrieved party, with a targeted completion timeline of three months. Both factions have consented to honor the terms of the government’s settlement, signifying a crucial step towards healing and reconciliation within the community.
The resumption of Friday prayers at the Jumu’at mosque marked a momentous occasion, with Sheikh Abbas Moriki delivering a sermon emphasizing the significance of unity. The Emir of Moriki, Bashar Isma’ila Muhammad, expressed profound gratitude for the timely resolution of the dispute and lauded the state government for its instrumental role in restoring harmony within the community.
