Nigeria’s President Promises Living Wage and Economic Advancements in New Year Message

Bola Tinubu, the President of Nigeria, delivered a New Year message in Lagos, vowing to introduce a new national living wage for hardworking Nigerian workers in 2024. Tinubu emphasized that this decision is not just a matter of good economic sense, but also a morally and politically sound move to ensure the well-being of the nation’s working class.

Tinubu expressed the government’s commitment to prioritize the economic aspirations and material well-being of the poor and vulnerable segments of the population. He stated, “We will work diligently to make sure every Nigerian feels the impact of their government.”

Stressing the importance of stable electricity supply for sustainable development, Tinubu affirmed that efforts to enhance power infrastructure will be accelerated. He highlighted ongoing projects aimed at strengthening electricity transmission and bolstering the reliability of the national grid.

The President also underscored plans to ramp up food production and ensure a steady supply of petroleum products in 2024. He specifically mentioned initiatives such as the cultivation of 500,000 hectares of farmland and the launch of dry season farming under the National Wheat Development Programme.

Tinubu further outlined the administration’s dedication to enacting fiscal and tax policy reforms to create a conducive business environment. He assured potential investors of Nigeria’s readiness and openness for business, emphasizing the government’s commitment to removing obstacles that hinder business competitiveness.

In his 2024 Budget presentation to the National Assembly, Tinubu delineated the administration’s eight priority areas, including national defence, job creation, macroeconomic stability, investment environment optimization, and poverty reduction.

As Nigeria gears up for 2024, President Tinubu’s promises paint a picture of a nation striving for economic progress and improved living standards for its citizens. With pledges to bolster workers’ wages, enhance essential infrastructure, and create a conducive business climate, the Nigerian government is setting its sights on a transformative year ahead.
