Former Nigerian President, Muhammad Buhari, has raised the alarm over the alarming prevalence of drug abuse in Katsina State. Speaking at a dialogue organized by the Katsina Consultative Forum, Mr. Buhari urged all concerned citizens to come together in a concerted effort to eradicate this grave societal menace.

During the event themed, ‘Tackling the menace of drug abuse among youths in Katsina State,’ Mr. Buhari emphasized the urgent need to address the issue, particularly its impact on young people and women. He highlighted the importance of safeguarding the potential of the country’s youth and the future of the nation, expressing his deep concern about the devastating effects of drug abuse.

Calling youths the “beloved assets” of the nation, Mr. Buhari underscored the vital role they play in shaping the future. He urged unity and decisive action to combat drug abuse, stressing the collective responsibility to confront this challenge and provide necessary support.

In his address, the former president urged leaders, educators, and policymakers to lead with empathy and invest in the youth through education, employment, and social support. He also called for collaborative efforts in prevention, treatment, and reintegration strategies for those battling addiction.

Acknowledging the multi-faceted nature of the problem, Mr. Buhari emphasized the need for collective action involving law enforcement agencies to curb drug trafficking and distribution. He further underscored the importance of a united front in addressing this critical issue for the prosperity of the state.

Governor Dikko Radda, represented by his deputy, Alhaji Faruq Lawal-Jobe, lauded Mr. Buhari’s presence at the event and commended the organizers for their significant efforts. He pledged the administration’s unwavering commitment to collaborate with relevant agencies in combating drug abuse.

Finally, Commander Sule Momodu of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Zone ‘F,’ appealed to the state government for increased support, including additional patrol vehicles, to enhance their operations.
