Gambia’s head coach, Tom Saintfiet, has expressed confidence in the Nigerian national football team’s ability to make a significant impact at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire. The Super Eagles aim to secure their fourth AFCON title, with their last victory dating back to 2013 in South Africa.
Saintfiet, set to lead Gambia in their second AFCON appearance following their debut in 2021, has tipped the Super Eagles to conquer the continent once more. Speaking on Brila FM, he conveyed his passion and admiration for Nigerian football while emphasizing Nigeria’s strong position as one of the tournament favorites. Reflecting on the 11-year gap since their previous triumph under (Late) Stephen Keshi’s leadership, he eagerly anticipates Nigeria’s performance in the upcoming competition.
Nigeria’s campaign will commence with a match against Equatorial Guinea on January 14 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium, followed by a pivotal encounter against the hosts at the same venue four days later. The group stage will culminate with Nigeria facing Guinea-Bissau on January 22.
With Saintfiet’s endorsement and the seasoned history of the Super Eagles, the stage is set for an enthralling journey as they strive to clinch the coveted AFCON title once again.
