In a scathing critique, the Labour Party (LP) has vehemently denounced President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s New Year speech as a shallow display of insincerity and dishonesty. The LP expressed profound dismay over what they perceive as the prevailing culture of hypocrisy, deceit, and a stark absence of compassion within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nigeria.

The LP lambasted the President and his advisors for their omission of any words of solace for the families of the 200+ victims who perished in the Christmas Eve massacre in Plateau State. Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the LP, articulated the party’s disappointment, highlighting the President’s apparent incapacity to address the pressing issues of insecurity, dilapidated infrastructure, industrial decline, inflation, and the plummeting exchange rate of the Naira against the dollar.

The LP’s statement sharply rebuked the President’s purported lack of acknowledgment concerning the widespread allegations of corrupt practices among government officials and party leaders across various sectors. Additionally, the LP strongly contested the President’s assertion that every action and decision taken during his tenure has been in the best interest of the nation, condemning it as a contemptible facade.

The LP unequivocally questioned the rationale behind the President’s unilateral decision to remove fuel subsidies without a coherent plan to alleviate the ensuing hardships endured by Nigerian citizens. Moreover, they castigated the frivolous depletion of the nation’s foreign reserves under the pretext of attending the climate change summit in Dubai, scrutinizing the actual benefits accrued to the Nigerian populace.

Amid their fervent denunciation, the LP underscored the pressing need to restore the integrity of democratic institutions such as the judiciary and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which they contend have suffered erosion under the leadership of the APC.

In conclusion, the LP appealed for national solidarity through prayers while urging the National Assembly to transcend party affiliations and uphold the sanctity of the Nigerian Constitution.

The LP’s scathing critique reinforces growing dissent against the APC administration, shedding light on widespread disillusionment and discontent within Nigeria’s political landscape.
