Nigeria’s national football team, the Super Eagles, has embarked on its journey to prepare for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by opening a training camp in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The team, consisting of 25 players, is set to gather in the Asian country, with the majority making their way from various locations across Europe.

As the squad assembles, notable players such as Samuel Chukwueze, Francis Uzoho, William Troost-Ekong, and Umar Sadiq have been granted permission by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to fulfill club commitments before joining their teammates in camp a day later.

During their one-week stay in Abu Dhabi, the Super Eagles aim to fine-tune strategies and solidify their game plan in preparation for the 2023 AFCON finals. Following their time in the UAE, the team is scheduled to return to Lagos on January 10 and then head to Abidjan on the same day, where the tournament will take place.

Drawn in Group A, Nigeria will face tough competition from hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. The Super Eagles will commence their campaign against Equatorial Guinea on January 14 at the Alssanne Quattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan. Subsequently, they will confront hosts Cote d’Ivoire four days later at the same venue before wrapping up the group stage against Guinea-Bissau on January 22.

With their eyes set on clinching the AFCON title, the three-time African champions are gearing up for an enthralling journey, aiming to make their mark in the prestigious tournament.
