Angola Rolls Out 2023 Tax Collection for Property and Motor Vehicles

The General Tax Administration (AGT) in Angola has announced the commencement of the 2023 Property Tax (IP) and Motor Vehicle Tax (IVM) voluntary payment on January 1 across the country. Taxpayers can schedule appointments through the Taxpayer Portal or the AGT website for both online and in-person services, and seek assistance from the Taxpayer Support Centre to facilitate their payments.

Property Tax Payment Details
Property tax payments must be completed by the last working day of March, with an option for taxpayers to make six consecutive installments upon request. The IP rate stands at 0.5% on the property value exceeding five million kwanzas. Moreover, for rented buildings, the tax amount is equivalent to 15% of the total rent. IP is applicable to urban and rustic buildings, and free or paid transfers of immovable property, irrespective of the title under which the transfers occur.

Motorized Vehicle Tax (IVM)
The IVM collection period spans from January 1 to June each year. Light and heavy cars, motorbikes, mopeds, tricycles, quadricycles, boats, and aircraft are among the vehicles subjected to IVM. All motorized vehicles, regardless of exemption status, must be registered, and eligible taxpayers are required to pay the tax irrespective of whether the vehicle is in circulation.

The AGT’s move to initiate the tax collection process is a significant development likely to impact individuals and businesses alike, contributing to the continuous evolution of Angola’s fiscal landscape. Stay tuned for further updates on this unfolding story.
