In a major leadership transition, Airtel Africa has announced the appointment of Sunil Taldar as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer. Taldar will be taking over from Olusegun Ogunsanya, who is retiring after a remarkable 12-year tenure at the telecommunications company.
This significant change comes merely months after Taldar joined Airtel Africa as the Director for Transformation in October of the previous year. His swift elevation to the top leadership position underscores the company’s strategic vision and confidence in his abilities.
Effective July 1, 2024, Taldar is set to assume his new role. Airtel Africa’s Chair, Sunil Bharti Mittal, expressed confidence in Taldar’s leadership, stating, “Following a transition period, Mr. Taldar will be appointed to the Board as an Executive Director and assume the role of CEO on 1 July 2024, at which time Mr. Ogunsanya will step down from the Board and retire from the company.”
This appointment marks a pivotal moment for Airtel Africa as it looks to navigate evolving market dynamics and technological advancements in the telecommunications industry. Taldar’s wealth of experience and strategic prowess are poised to steer the company into its next phase of growth and innovation.
