In the wake of the tragic Christmas Eve attacks that resulted in the loss of lives and livelihoods in Plateau State, the Forum of Former Youth Leaders in Plateau State has urged both the state and federal governments to work together to enforce the existing anti-land grabbing law. The chairman of the forum, Yakubu Itse, made this call during a press briefing in Jos, the state capital.
“It is crucial for the government to take concrete steps to implement the Plateau anti-land grabbing law,” Itse emphasized. “We have confidence in the security agencies and urge them to conduct a thorough investigation to apprehend the perpetrators of this heinous crime.”
The forum further stressed the need for collaboration between the federal and state governments in addressing the spate of attacks. “The new government at all levels must demonstrate a commitment to identifying, arresting, and appropriately punishing those responsible for these acts of violence,” Itse added.
The group also underscored the importance of professionalism within the security agencies to effectively address the recurring attacks in Plateau State and Nigeria as a whole. They specifically called for an investigation into the alleged ambition of the Fulani community to make Nigeria the global headquarters of the Fulanis, urging that the findings should not be relegated to the archives like previous inquiries.
The plea from the Forum of Former Youth Leaders highlights the pressing need for concerted efforts to curb land-related conflicts and violence in Plateau State, as well as the imperative for law enforcement and justice to prevail in the face of such atrocities.
