Nigeria’s Yusuf Steps in for Injured Ndidi, Iheanacho’s AFCON Fate Uncertain

Nigeria’s squad for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has seen a notable change, with Alhassan Yusuf stepping in to replace the injured Wilfred Ndidi. The Royal Antwerp of Belgium star, initially part of the Super Eagles’ provisional squad, is set to join his teammates at their Abu Dhabi camp, marking his first call-up to the national team.

Ndidi, who sustained an injury prior to Leicester City’s recent triumph over Huddersfield Town, has been a pivotal figure for Nigeria in previous AFCON tournaments, making his absence a significant loss. Despite this setback, there is hope for the team as Kelechi Iheanacho, nursing a muscle injury, is anticipated to link up with the squad before the commencement of the AFCON.

As the Super Eagles gather momentum for the prestigious tournament, their preparations have been underway in Abu Dhabi, reflecting their determination to excel on the continental stage.
