In a recent announcement, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has extended the registration deadline for the 2024 Hajj from the initial date of December 31, 2023, to January 31, 2024. This decision comes in response to appeals from religious leaders, state pilgrims’ welfare boards/agencies/commissions, and state governors.
The extension aims to accommodate the fervent requests from various religious communities, emphasizing the importance of ensuring broader access for the faithful wishing to partake in the sacred pilgrimage. NAHCON expressed gratitude for the federal government’s approval of the deadline extension, highlighting the significance of providing an additional opportunity for individuals to participate in this spiritual journey.
Moreover, NAHCON plans to utilize the extended deadline to finalize the calculation of the total cost of the 2024 Hajj for both individuals and organizations. The commission is confident that with the support of its sister agencies, the total cost will be determined before the new deadline, allowing new registrants to participate and providing an opportunity for existing registrants to complete their payments.
Notably, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has stipulated February 25 as the deadline for finalizing all agreements, emphasizing the need for timely action. NAHCON underscored the importance of adhering to this deadline, as it signifies the end of payments into IBAN accounts and the finalization of all contracts.
With 95,000 Nigerians participating in the 2023 hajj, a similar number is expected to make the spiritual journey to Saudi Arabia for the upcoming hajj. As the new deadline approaches, NAHCON remains committed to facilitating a seamless and inclusive process for all intending pilgrims and stakeholders, ensuring a successful and fulfilling experience for all participants.
