The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has extended a warm embrace to Senator Magnus Abe following his decision to rejoin the party after a brief stint with the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Abe’s departure to the SDP stemmed from a disagreement with Rotimi Amaechi, the former Governor of Rivers State and ex-Minister of Transportation, subsequent to his inability to secure the APC governorship ticket for the 2023 general election. However, Abe went on to emerge as the gubernatorial candidate of the SDP for the 2023 election.
In response to Abe’s return, Tony Okocha, the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of APC in Rivers State, expressed his enthusiasm by stating, “We welcome him with our full chest. We will work together with him. What makes a party tick is not a single individual; it’s a whole lot of people. In politics, the more the merrier.”
Highlighting the significance of unity within the party, Okocha acknowledged Abe’s pivotal role in the founding of APC in Rivers State. He also emphasized the importance of collective effort, asserting that individual ambitions should not overshadow the overarching goal of the party.
“Whatever happened, we all know. We were on one part, against an intransigent government or leadership of the APC—an inept leadership in APC. But I didn’t think that the proper thing to do was to leave. So I remained,” remarked Okocha, alluding to the challenges faced within the party.
In his concluding remarks, Okocha emphasized the ethos of inclusivity and collaboration in modern politics, underlining that no single individual should overshadow the collective strength of a united party.
Abe’s return to the APC marks a significant development in the political landscape of Rivers State, shedding light on the intricate dynamics and alliances within the state’s political sphere.
