In a bid to address the pervasive issue of hunger and poverty, the recently passed N28.7 trillion annual budget for 2024 seeks to bring about significant change, according to Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, representing Ogun West Senatorial District. Speaking at a New Year Thanksgiving celebration in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government area of Ogun State, Senator Adeola, who also serves as the Senate Committee Chairman on Appropriation, emphasized the government’s commitment to alleviating economic hardships and ensuring food security in the country.
Senator Adeola outlined that the increased budget allocation, which received presidential approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, reflects a deliberate effort to prioritize programs aimed at uplifting the less privileged. Stressing the pivotal role of the agricultural sector in this endeavor, he revealed that over N300 billion has been allocated to support agricultural initiatives as part of the overarching strategy to tackle hunger and bolster food production.
“The government’s determination to eradicate hunger is evident in the substantial budget allocation for the agricultural sector, amounting to over N300 billion. This underscores the administration’s resolve to prioritize food production and ensure food security in the country,” Senator Adeola explained.
The senator also underscored the collaborative efforts of lawmakers in shaping the appropriation act, which garnered a considerable focus on initiatives to enhance food security. He expressed optimism that these concerted measures would considerably reduce hunger and poverty, offering reassurance to Nigerians that the administration is working tirelessly to improve their livelihoods.
