The governor of Ekiti State, Biodun Oyebanji, took the oath of office of 38 newly elected local government chairmen on Thursday, emphasizing the need for a significant improvement in security and revenue generation within their respective council areas.
During the inauguration ceremony, Governor Oyebanji urged the newly sworn-in chairmen to prioritize enhancing security measures and boosting revenue generation. He also emphasized the importance of building upon the accomplishments of their predecessors, warning against any security breaches at the local government level. The newly elected chairmen emerged from the December 2, 2023 local government elections in the state.
Representing the governor, Deputy Governor Chief (Mrs) Monisade Afuye commended the immediate past chairmen and the reelected individuals for their political and administrative prowess in delivering results amidst various challenges.
With a strong stance against corruption and mismanagement of funds, Governor Oyebanji stressed the critical need for the new chairmen to uphold honesty, impartiality, and fairness in their duties, along with a relentless commitment to the shared prosperity agenda of his government.
Moreover, Oyebanji underscored his administration’s dedication to democratic governance at the grassroots level by initiating the local government elections, reaffirming his commitment to ensuring democratic processes in the functioning of the councils.
