In a resolute declaration, the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Adewale Adeniyi, has asserted the unyielding determination of the service to attain its projected N5.1 trillion revenue target for the year 2024.
Adeniyi made this proclamation during the ceremonial decoration of newly promoted officers at the organization’s headquarters in Abuja. He emphasized the formidable challenges faced by the service within the economic landscape, where the onus falls on the Nigeria Customs Service to generate revenue for funding the national budget.
Addressing the officers, Adeniyi underscored the gravity of the task at hand, stating, “Our challenges are in an economy that continuously looks forward to the Nigeria Customs Service to generate revenue to fund the national budget. As at the last time, if it has not changed, the revenue projection for Customs in 2024 stands at N5.1 trillion.” He stressed the imperative for officers to demonstrate unwavering commitment and diligence to achieve this ambitious goal.
Notably, in December of the previous year, Adeniyi had appeared before the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, disclosing that Customs had set a revenue target of over N5 trillion for the year 2024. It is worth mention that there was deliberation from lawmakers, who advocated for a revised target of N6 trillion.
Amidst these developments, the Nigeria Customs Service approved the promotion of officers, including two Assistant Comptrollers-General, Florence Nano Ogar-Modey, and Queen Ogubudu, as reported by Media Talk Africa.
This unequivocal stance of the Nigeria Customs Service underscores the significance of achieving its revenue target, representing a critical aspect of the nation’s fiscal framework, and heralds a period of intensified efforts and strategic initiatives to realize this ambitious objective.
