Afenifere Official Enters Ondo Governorship Race

The upcoming governorship election in Ondo State has gained a new contender as Sola Ebiseni, the Secretary-General of Afenifere, a prominent pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has announced his candidacy for the state’s highest office.

During his declaration, Ebiseni highlighted his deep understanding and familiarity with the state, presenting himself as the most suitable leader. He emphasized the significance of the November 16, 2024 election, asserting that all former governors of Ondo State were shaped by the principles of Awolowo, a revered political figure.

In an interview with journalists, Ebiseni, a legal practitioner and former commissioner in the state, stressed the importance of comprehending the people and the land for the state’s progress. He urged for urgent measures to diversify the state’s economy away from heavy reliance on federal allocation, advocating for economic liberation.

Ebiseni also underscored the legacy of past governors who were well-versed in the ideology of the Awolowo school of thought, stating, “The development of our state also requires being fully acquainted with the territory and the people. Such knowledge affords the new manager the opportunity to determine the location of resources, create wealth therefrom, and fairly allocate them without undue concentration in one or a few places.”

As the political landscape in Ondo State intensifies, Ebiseni’s entry into the gubernatorial race adds a new dimension, setting the stage for a compelling electoral contest.
