MURIC Urges Lawmakers to Fairly Distribute Tinubu’s Rice and Food Palliatives

The Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) is calling on members of the National Assembly (NASS) to ensure the swift and equitable distribution of thousands of bags of rice and other foodstuffs that were recently distributed to them for sharing by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement released on Friday in Abuja, Prof. Ishaq Akintola, the Executive Director of MURIC, expressed concerns about the distribution of the palliatives. He pointed out that there were reports of discrepancies between the amount of aid received by senators and representatives, and the manner in which these aids were being made known to the public.

The statement highlighted the alleged receipt of N200 million worth of foodstuffs by each of Nigeria’s 109 Senators, and N100 million worth by the 360 members of the House of Representatives. Despite this, there were discrepancies in the public acknowledgment of receiving these palliatives.

MURIC raised questions about the transparency and urgency of the distribution process, urging the Senators and Representatives to promptly begin the distribution of the palliatives among their constituents. The organization emphasized the importance of transparent communication to counter false narratives and ensure public awareness of the positive actions of the government.

Additionally, MURIC appealed to the Nigerian people for patience while the lawmakers addressed the logistics of the distribution. It also urged the Senate and the House of Representatives to swiftly address the situation to prevent any unrest or misinformation.

The organization emphasized its commitment to advocating for the welfare of all Nigerians, regardless of religious beliefs, ethnicity, or gender. It outlined its vision of a unified Nigeria where every citizen enjoys fundamental human rights and equal opportunities.

MURIC made it clear that it will continue to demand transparency and accountability from the lawmakers until the distribution of the received palliatives is successfully executed. The organization’s stance reflects its dedication to fostering a nation where justice, fairness, and compassion prevail.

Overall, MURIC’s call for transparent and fair distribution of the food palliatives reflects the pressing need for accountability and efficiency in addressing the welfare of Nigerian citizens during times of crisis.
