“Governor Umo Eno Pays Tribute to Fallen Nigerian Armed Forces Heroes”

Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the unwavering courage and sacrifice of the fallen heroes of the Nigerian Armed Forces. Speaking at the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem launch, organized by the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare in Uyo, the governor, represented by his deputy, Sen. Akon Eyakenyi, honored the heroes for their commitment to national unity and territorial integrity.

Eno emphasized the imperative nature of commemorating the fallen heroes, recognizing their selfless dedication to the nation’s safety amid arduous challenges. He underscored the pivotal role of the armed forces in combatting militancy, terrorism, and banditry, highlighting their crucial contribution to sustaining the nation’s unity and indivisibility.

The governor lauded the Federal Government’s annual observance of Jan. 15 as a day to honor the men and women of the armed forces who made the ultimate sacrifice. Additionally, he called upon all well-meaning Nigerians, non-governmental organizations, and corporate entities to extend support to the families of the fallen heroes, aiming to enhance their quality of life.

Dr. Ini Adiakpan, the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, offered gratitude to the fallen heroes for their exceptional valor and patriotism in defending the nation. She commended the Nigerian armed forces for their relentless efforts in combating insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping.

The emblem launch presented an opportunity for corporate organizations, individuals, and the entire Nigerian populace to provide financial and material assistance to the families of the fallen heroes. This gesture of support is pivotal in ensuring that these families are able to lead better lives.

Comrade Joseph Esu, the Chairman of the Nigerian Legion in Akwa Ibom, appealed to non-state actors engaged in hostilities against the nation to seek dialogue as a means of addressing their grievances. He expressed admiration for the collaborative endeavors of the armed forces and other security agencies in upholding peace and security in the country.

The event reverberated with a resounding message of honoring the fallen heroes, acknowledging their sacrifices, and providing tangible support to their families, thus embodying the spirit of unity and gratitude towards those who have dedicated their lives in service of the nation.
