Imo State Urged to Unite in the Fight Against Drug Abuse

The Special Adviser on Narcotics and Illicit Drugs Monitoring to Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Chief Ezechukwu Obonna, has called on Imo residents to join hands in eradicating drug abuse and making the state drug-free.

During his birthday celebration in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, Obonna emphasized the need to resist the consumption of dangerous drugs like Kush, a substance made from human bones and chemicals, as well as the sniffing of human remains and urine, and drug trafficking.

“Let’s resist the temptation of getting involved in the consumption and trafficking of illicit drugs, especially the dangerous trend from Sierra Leone called KUSH, which is a hard drug made from human bones and chemicals,” Obonna urged. He further highlighted the urgency of combating the epidemic of drug abuse, emphasizing that a united front is essential.

“In this fight against drug abuse, our homes are the first line of defense. We must all come together to combat this menace and support our governor’s genuine aim of making our state drug-free, ultimately leading to a decrease in crime rates,” he stressed.

Obonna underscored the impact of drug abuse on security, noting the decrease in violent crimes during the festive period as a testament to the state government’s progress in combating insecurity, often linked to drug abuse.

“The reduction in drug demand will significantly contribute to our victory in the war against insecurity,” he stated. Obonna’s remarks aimed to rally support for the government’s efforts and underscore the crucial role of every individual in creating a drug-free environment, promoting safety and security across Imo State.
