The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Kano State has made a chilling arrest. A 25-year-old man, Alkasim Ya’u, stands accused of the unfathomable crime of stabbing his own father to death in the Tudun Yola ‘C’ area of the Gwale Local Government Area.
In a conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria, NSCDC Corps Commandant, Mohammed Falala, revealed that the harrowing incident transpired on Friday around 1:30 PM at the home of Salisu Bala.
According to Falala, the deceased father, Alhaji Ya’u Mohammed, had taken his mentally ill son, Alkasim Ya’u, to the Psychiatric Hospital Dawanau for medical treatment. Tragically, the events that unfolded thereafter defy belief. Instead of returning to Katsina, the father opted to spend the night at his brother’s residence at the same address, a decision that would prove fatal.
Investigations have uncovered that Alkasim’s mental disorder stemmed from his involvement in hard drug activities. Upon their arrival at Tudun Yola, the afflicted son abruptly turned violent, wielding a sharp object to fatally wound his father. The NSCDC operatives stationed in the area intervened, rushing the victim to the hospital and apprehending the suspect.
As the family makes arrangements for the return of the deceased to Katsina for burial, the suspect and the weapon were handed over to the Rijiyar Zaki Divisional Police Office for thorough investigation.
This tragic tale serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of drug abuse and mental illness within our communities. The NSCDC’s swift response in apprehending the suspect and ensuring further investigation is commendable, though it does little to alleviate the loss and heartache that now befalls this family.
As the details continue to unfold, the people of Kano are left grappling with a profound sense of sorrow and unrest, mourning the loss of a father at the hands of his own son.
This is a story of unspeakable tragedy and a family shattered by an incomprehensible act.
