In a significant political development, Professor Anthony Okorie Ani, a distinguished academician, has clinched the nomination as the All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South. The fiercely contested primary election, held at the council headquarters of Afikpo North LGA, was heavily secured to forestall any potential unrest.
Prof. Ani, a resident of Onicha Local Government Area and a renowned Professor of Agricultural Extension at the Federal University of Technology Owerri, Imo State, secured a resounding victory, emerging as the APC candidate for the impending bye-election scheduled for February 4th, 2024. This bye-election was necessitated by the resignation of David Umahi, who assumed the role of Minister of Works.
The electoral committee’s chairman and returning officer for the APC, Mr. Akin Akin-Sehiinwa, announced that Ani garnered an impressive 281 votes out of the total 285 cast, cementing his position as the party’s senatorial candidate for Ebonyi South.
Emphasizing the fairness and transparency of the primary election, the state chairman of the APC, Stanley Okoro Emegha, reassured the public that the candidate selection process was devoid of discord and truly reflective of the party’s commitment to equitable representation across the five LGAs in the area. He also conveyed the party’s unwavering determination to secure victory in the impending bye-election.
In his response, Professor Ani expressed confidence in the credibility and integrity of the forthcoming bye-election, outlining his anticipation of an overwhelming triumph for the APC.
This unfolding political narrative not only underscores the seismic shift in Ebonyi South’s political landscape but also underscores the ascendancy of a scholarly figure onto the national stage. As the state gears up for the bye-election, all eyes are on Professor Ani and the APC, poised for a pivotal electoral contest that will shape the region’s political trajectory.
