CNPP urges Tinubu to reduce corruption abuse of office

The Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) has issued a compelling plea to President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action in curbing corruption and abuse of power within his administration. In an open letter dated January 8 and made public in Lagos, the CNPP highlighted the urgency of addressing these pressing issues to uplift the livelihoods of the Nigerian populace.

Signed by Oloye Adegboyega-Adeniji, the Secretary General of South-West CNPP, the communication, titled “Reduce Corruption in Your Administration”, directly implores President Tinubu to draw from his storied history as a veteran activist and opposition leader. It specifically references his pivotal role during the transition process under Gen. Ibrahim Babangida, which ultimately led to the annulment of the June 12, 1993, general elections.

“We members of the CNPP in the South West admonish you not to forget the years of struggles, in the company of our national chairman, Alhaji Balarabe Musa of blessed memory, to foster and sustain our nascent democracy,” reads a section of the letter.

The CNPP underscored the need for President Tinubu to set a robust precedent in the fight against corruption, urging him to compel civil and public servants to temporarily vacate their roles pending the outcomes of ongoing investigations. This call to action aligns with the CNPP’s wider mission to foster a transparent and ethical governance framework within Nigeria.

Amid the backdrop of President Tinubu’s New Year message and the varied responses it elicited from the Nigerian populace, the CNPP’s appeal resonates not only within the political sphere but also strikes a chord with citizens across the nation. The letter serves as a potent reminder of the collective responsibility to uphold democratic principles and the vital role of leadership in steering the nation towards a more equitable and just future.
