Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, recently revealed a surprising twist in his public perception. Despite facing heavy criticisms on social media, Wike proudly expressed that every Nigerian wants to take pictures with him. This revelation came during a luncheon he hosted in his country home in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

During the event, Wike recounted his experience at a gathering organized by Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, in Lagos. He humorously remarked, “If you see social media, you would think this man is the most evil person,” emphasizing the disparity between online criticism and real-life interactions. Wike shared his bewilderment at being the center of attention, with every Nigerian eager to snap a photo with him. He even humorously questioned whether people wanted to capture a moment with him or with a devil or ghost.

This unexpected adoration continued beyond the borders of Nigeria. Wike disclosed that even Nigerians residing abroad displayed amicable gestures towards him. During a trip to London, volunteers at Heathrow Airport’s terminal 5 eagerly offered to carry his luggage, showcasing a remarkable level of admiration.

In response to this overwhelming positive reception, Wike attributed it to the impact he has made in people’s lives. He stressed the importance of leaving a lasting impression and urged individuals in positions of influence to prioritize making a tangible difference.

In a world where social media often dictates public opinion, Nyesom Wike’s revelation offers a compelling insight into the stark contrast between virtual condemnation and genuine public sentiment. It serves as a testament to the complexities of public figures’ relationships with the masses and the nuances of their perceived personas.
