In a resolute statement, the Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, emphasized that the commission holds no one beyond the reach of investigation within the country. Addressing a high-level meeting in Abuja initiated by the Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Dr. Musa Aliyu, Mr. Olukoyede conveyed the unwavering commitment to combat corruption.
Expressing conviction in the government’s resolve to tackle corruption, Mr. Olukoyede underscored the significance of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s demonstrated political will. He pointed to recent events as evidence of the administration’s dedication to upholding integrity. “We believe that with the kind of President that we have, who is willing and ready to do the right thing as demonstrated in the last 48 hours, it is clear that the President is providing the political will and the leadership for the anti-corruption agencies to work,” the EFCC boss stated emphatically.
Asserting the commission’s allegiance to the President’s stance, Mr. Olukoyede proclaimed, “We are going to give the President the right support and we believe that the courage would be there to take the right decisions.” He left no room for ambiguity, declaring, “Nobody is too big to be investigated in this country. Once you are not playing by the rules, we’ll investigate you.”
The resounding affirmation of equality before the law, as articulated by the EFCC Chairman, stands as a bold declaration of the Commission’s commitment to upholding justice and combating corruption at all levels. In a nation where the scourge of corruption has, at times, appeared insurmountable, these words serve as a potent reminder that the anti-corruption drive spares no individual or entity. With clarity and conviction, Mr. Olukoyede’s declaration reinforces the ethos of accountability and fairness in the pursuit of a corruption-free society – a sentiment with far-reaching implications.
As the EFCC continues to assert its unwavering dedication to the cause, Mr. Olukoyede’s remarks echo a universal truth: in the relentless pursuit of justice and transparency, no individual, regardless of status or influence, stands exempt from scrutiny.
