In a recent development, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, expressed his appreciation for the unwavering support of the South-East governors in bolstering the fight against insecurity in the region. During a courtesy visit to Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State at the Government House, Enugu, Mr. Lagbaja commended the governors for their consistent backing of the security agencies, attributing it to the prevailing peace in the zone.
“I am reassured that the support of the governor of Enugu State, as well as other governors in the southeast, through the efforts of our troops, has created a stable, peaceful, and enabling environment for the economy of the southeast,” the army chief stated.
Lt. Gen. Lagbaja further emphasized his commitment to assessing the deployment of troops across the country, with the aim of enhancing their operational effectiveness. He acknowledged the support provided by Governor Mbah and the people of Enugu State to 82 Division, 103 battalion, and other troop deployments across the state, enabling them to maintain a presence in operation centers, conduct patrols, and carry out operations that promote stability and peace.
In response, Governor Mbah lauded Mr. Lagbaja for his visit, highlighting the significance of addressing security challenges to fulfill the state’s developmental goals. He affirmed the decline of disruptive events like the “Monday sit-at-home” in Enugu, signifying progress in maintaining security. Additionally, he urged the Chief of Army Staff to consider establishing an army barracks in Isi-Uzo Council Area to further fortify security measures.
