A prominent figure within the Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Lere Olayinka, has leveled serious allegations, claiming that certain individuals affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (SDP) are covertly posing as members of the PDP.
Olayinka, who previously served as the Chief Press Secretary to former Governor Ayo Fayose, asserted in a statement released on Thursday that certain PDP members advocating for the suspension of his former boss due to his endorsement of Governor Biodun Oyebanji, were in fact aligned with the SDP.
Emphatically, Olayinka stressed that the very individuals who actively opposed the PDP during the 2022 gubernatorial election in the state and the subsequent 2023 National Assembly elections are the ones laying claim to PDP membership. He urged these elements to desist from misleading the public with their purported affiliations.
Expressing astonishment at the presence of the spokesperson from the SDP during a recent meeting, Olayinka pondered whether the SDP’s political influence had waned, considering the previous acclaim of being the party to reckon with.
Further, Olayinka defended his former boss, Ayo Fayose, characterizing him as a statesman entitled to endorse any candidate. However, Olayinka cautioned that unless the PDP charts a clear course of action, its members will continue pursuing individual political agendas.
The accusations and counter-accusations within Ekiti State’s political landscape underscore the complex dynamics prevalent within the region’s party politics. This latest development fuels the ongoing discourse surrounding party loyalty and ideological alignment, hinting at potential ramifications for the PDP’s internal cohesion and public perception.
The tumultuous backdrop against which these claims unfold serves as a stark reminder of the intricate interplay of personalities and party affiliations, shaping the trajectory of political narratives within the Nigerian landscape.
