Nigerian Anti-Trafficking Agency Rescues 41 Victims in Anambra

The year 2023 has seen the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) carry out a substantial rescue mission, with 41 individuals liberated from the clutches of trafficking in Anambra State. Additionally, 18 suspected traffickers have been apprehended, marking a significant stride in the fight against this heinous crime.

Speaking to journalists in Awka, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Anthony Okafor, revealed that 25 cases of human trafficking were reported to NAPTIP in the state during the year. Out of these, seven are undergoing prosecution, while 17 remain under investigation. Despite the absence of convictions in 2023, Okafor urged citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities related to human trafficking, emphasizing NAPTIP’s commitment to take swift and decisive action.

“We encourage the public to always report cases of human trafficking to NAPTIP, and such cases will be handled professionally, while the offenders are diligently prosecuted,” Okafor stated. He underscored the importance of vigilance among citizens, urging them to adhere to the agency’s slogan: “When you see something, you say something.”
