The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed its satisfaction with the recent Supreme Court verdict on the 2023 governorship elections in eight states, hailing it as a testament to the strength and autonomy of the Nigerian judicial system.
In a statement released in Abuja on Friday, Mr. Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, lauded the apex court’s decisions. While celebrating the validation of the governorship candidatures of the APC in Lagos, Ebonyi, and Cross River States, Morka noted that the outcomes in Kano, Zamfara, Bauchi, Plateau, and Abia states favored candidates from other political parties.
Acknowledging that the rulings may spark diverse reactions and assessments, Morka emphasized the irrevocability and obligatory nature of the Supreme Court’s pronouncements on all parties involved in the legal disputes.
Morka underscored the APC’s consistent stance on granting the judiciary the liberty to discharge its pivotal role in settling conflicts, including electoral issues, and highlighted how the recent judgments reinforced the judiciary’s competence and autonomy.
Furthermore, Morka criticized opposition figures, specifically the Peoples Democratic Party, for their lambasting and disparagement of the judiciary following adverse verdicts from lower courts. He directed particular scorn towards the opposition party and urged them to issue an unequivocal apology to the judiciary for their purportedly heedless and unwarranted attacks.
Extending congratulations to the victorious candidates, notably governors Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi, and Bassey Otu of Cross River, Morka conveyed the APC’s well wishes as they persist in their service to their respective states and the nation. He appealed to all concerned parties to maintain composure and sustain peaceful conduct in the best interests of all.
