President Bola Tinubu has given the green light for the appointment of board members to oversee the Midstream and Downstream Gas Infrastructure Fund (MDGIF). This decision was communicated by Ajuri Ngelale, the special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, in a statement released on Friday in Abuja.

The MDGIF will be housed within the Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA).

In his statement, Ngelale emphasized that Tinubu has charged the appointees with the responsibility to uphold the highest standards of transparency, discipline, and patriotism. These principles are in alignment with the government’s efforts to bolster the gas sector’s role in fostering robust and inclusive economic growth in Nigeria.

The newly appointed members include Ekperikpe Ekpo as the Chairman of the MDGIF Governing Council, Oluwole Adama as the MDGIF Executive Director, and Joseph Tolorunshe as the MDGIF Governing Council Secretary. Farouk Ahmed will serve as the chief executive of NMDPRA, alongside representatives from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Finance.

Furthermore, the three MDGIF Independent Board Members are Ms Amina Maina representing the North-East, Edet David Ubong representing the South-South, and Tajudeen Bolaji Musa representing the South-West.

This move underlines the administration’s commitment to enhancing the gas sector’s pivotal role in propelling Nigeria towards sustainable economic progress.
