Nigerian Scholar Offers N400,000 Scholarships to Four Nigerian Students

A heartwarming initiative has been launched by US-based Nigerian scholar, Abdulbasit Kassim, who has introduced N400,000 scholarships to support four deserving Nigerian students.

In an exclusive statement shared with Media Talk Africa, Abdulbasit Kassim revealed that these need-based scholarships are a tribute to his late brothers and esteemed lecturers, aiming to assist first and second-year students in the humanities and social sciences across tertiary institutions within Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

The scholarships – named in honor of his late brothers, Muhammad Usman Barau and Abdulwasiu Olorunfemi Omojarabi, as well as his respected lecturers, Dr. Sunday Suleiman and Mallam Abdullahi Tanko Umaru – seek to fill a crucial gap in the education sector. In Nigeria, most undergraduate scholarships tend to be focused on STEM fields, leaving humanities and social sciences students with limited opportunities for financial aid.

Abdulbasit Kassim emphasized that there are no minimum GPA requirements for applicants, and students who have faced academic challenges are strongly encouraged to apply. The N100,000 fund for each scholarship will be disbursed directly to the recipient’s institution, alleviating the burden of tuition fees.

The pilot scheme comprises four categories, with each winner receiving N100,000. The categories include the Muhammad Usman Barau Memorial Scholarship Fund, Sunday Suleiman Memorial Scholarship Fund, Abdulwasiu Olorunfemi Omojarabi Memorial Scholarship Fund, and Abdullahi Tanko Umaru Memorial Scholarship Fund.

This altruistic gesture by Abdulbasit Kassim is set to make a meaningful impact on the lives of deserving Nigerian students, providing them with valuable support to pursue their academic aspirations and contribute to the nation’s socio-economic development.
