The National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) has announced a comprehensive review of the guidelines for the registration of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) service providers/contractors. This move, disclosed by Hadiza Umar, Head of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at NITDA, aims to bolster the ease of doing business and improve efficiency in the registration processes.

Umar emphasized that the review is geared towards streamlining the delivery of IT services to Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) of the government. The existing guidelines, which were first issued in 2018, outline the registration process for indigenous IT service providers, with the objective of ensuring the delivery of high-quality IT projects to the Federal Government, upholding professionalism, and nurturing the growth of local IT companies in compliance with relevant Presidential Executive Orders.

Furthermore, NITDA has identified the necessity to enhance the efficiency of the registration process and promote indigenous IT service provision. The agency aims to engage competent vendors for IT service delivery to government entities. This strategic review aligns with the current administration’s commitment to driving collective prosperity through efficiency and innovation.

The anticipated outcome of the review includes the amendment of the guidelines to create opportunities for more digital services to be provided by Nigerian companies. Umar reiterated NITDA’s willingness to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure that Nigerians benefit from the use of IT to enhance and simplify their interactions with the government and other institutions.

In a bid to engage the public and gather valuable feedback, NITDA has extended an invitation for comments, inputs, and feedback until Sunday, Jan. 21, 2024. The public can provide their contributions through the following link: [link removed as per instructions].

This initiative underscores NITDA’s commitment to driving progress and inclusivity in the ICT sector, with a focus on leveraging technology to enhance daily activities and foster digital innovation across Nigeria.
