Benue State Governor, Rev Fr Hyacinth Alia, has taken decisive action by ordering the immediate release of the kidnapped Caretaker Chairman of Ukum LGA, Hon Hanganoon Gideon, and three others who were abducted by unidentified gunmen on Saturday.
The abduction occurred as Hon Gideon was en route to the burial of the late Ter Katsina-Ala on Saturday, marking a distressing escalation in the region’s security challenges.
Speaking during a funeral oration at the Akume Atongo stadium in Katsina-Ala, Gov Alia expressed deep concern over the persistent killings and abductions by bandits in the area, emphasizing that such lawlessness cannot be tolerated any longer.
Furthermore, Gov Alia urgently called for the convening of a meeting by all stakeholders from the Sankera political bloc to devise sustainable solutions for restoring lasting peace in the area. This collective effort involves current and former Senators, House of Representatives Members, and other influential figures, whose resolutions will be promptly implemented upon submission to the governor.
Governor Alia underscored his administration’s commitment to engaging the youth in constructive societal pursuits, provided they desist from engaging in criminal activities. He also urged traditional leaders in the Sankera axis of the state to actively contribute to the restoration of peace, affirming his administration’s unwavering determination to ensure tranquility not only in the district but throughout the entire state.
Amid the solemn occasion, he extended heartfelt condolences to the family of Chief Wombo, comforting them with the assurance that their father had led a fulfilled life.
In a related development, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, Sen George Akume, emphasized the imperative of collective responsibility in propelling the state forward, fostering a unified stance against the challenges facing the region.
