The Concerned PDP League (CPDPL), an influential group within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has made a significant plea to Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the party’s 2023 presidential candidate. The group’s message, conveyed in a communiqué released in Abuja, advises Atiku not to vie for the presidency in the 2027 election. This critical advice was articulated by the National Secretary, Alhaji Tasiu Muhammed, and the acting National Director of Publicity and Strategic Communication, Gbenga Adedamola.
Furthermore, the CPDPL has urged Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, to refrain from harboring presidential ambitions until 2031. This cautionary counsel is intended to forestall a recurrence of the party’s setbacks in the 2015 and 2023 elections. The group underscores the importance of honoring the precept that the South is entitled to eight years in power before the presidential baton returns to the North in 2031, in order to foster political equilibrium and stability in the country.
In emphasizing the need for stability in the political landscape, the CPDPL aims to safeguard the party against pitfalls that led to its electoral defeat in 2023. The group has solemnly urged the PDP to be vigilant and to steer clear of the factors that contributed to the party’s unsuccessful performance in the previous general election. It cited the failure to adhere to the party’s 2017 amended constitution and leadership lapses as attributing to the electoral loss in 2023.
The CPDPL’s resonant call to its party members, leaders, and aspirants from the North to uphold the South’s entitlement to the presidency for the next eight years presents a vision for strategic political succession. Moreover, the group’s emphasis on learning from past missteps and charting a course towards a cohesive and unwavering electoral approach signifies a pivotal moment in the party’s trajectory.
