In a bid to uphold party unity and stability, the Concerned PDP League (CPDPL) has advised former presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar not to contest in the 2027 election. The group, which convened in Abuja, also urged Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State, the Chairman of PDP Governors Forum, to refrain from harboring presidential ambitions until 2031.

Emphasizing the need for a balanced North-South power transition, the CPDPL highlighted the importance of allowing the South to have its turn before the shift back to the North in 2031. By advocating for this approach, the group aims to foster political stability within the country.

Reflecting on the party’s setbacks in the 2023 general election, CPDPL cautioned against factors that led to the loss, such as non-compliance with the party constitution, member defections, and judicial intervention. To mitigate these challenges, the group called for collective sacrifice, including the withdrawal of court cases and the suspension of personal interests, to consolidate PDP’s position and effectively challenge the All Progressive Congress (APC) in future elections.

Moreover, while expressing support for a Southern candidate in the 2027 presidential race, CPDPL denounced statements made by certain party members, including former Benue governor Samuel Ortom and incumbent Rivers State governor, pertaining to their alignment with individuals outside the PDP. The group urged them to acknowledge the party’s role and prioritize party unity over individual allegiances.

Addressing the defection of Rivers Assembly members to the APC, CPDPL underscored that the seats should remain vacant, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections within the stipulated period to ensure representation for the affected constituencies. Additionally, the group advocated for the inclusion of measures to prevent the misappropriation of the party’s mandate by disloyal members.

Amidst the commendation of the Supreme Court’s recent rulings in favor of PDP governors, CPDPL urged for impartiality in pending cases, urging the Apex Court justices to uphold fairness and accountability. The group applauded the efforts of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), led by the acting National Chairman, Alhaji Umar Damagum, and called for continued support from party leaders and members to strengthen unity and progress.

As the PDP navigates the complexities of internal politics and prepares for future electoral battles, the counsel of the CCPL serves as a potent reminder of the imperative of institutional coherence and collective commitment to the party’s success.
