The account of Stanley Akoza, a motorist, has surfaced, alleging that he underwent physical assault and was unlawfully detained at the Uke Police Station following a collision with the convoy of Governor Abdullahi Sule. The encounter reportedly transpired due to the deteriorated state of the road.
The incident unfolded on Monday, January 8, on the Abuja-Keffi expressway near Gora in the Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. Akoza disclosed that not only was his Toyota Corolla damaged in the collision, but he was also subjected to further mistreatment by security personnel linked to the Governor’s convoy. He further claimed that he was compelled to spend a night at the Uke Police Station, where his car’s documents were confiscated, and he was instructed to return the following Tuesday for their release. “I’m still on treatment,” he added.
A police officer from the Uke station stated that the driver had been brought in by security operatives attached to the Governor’s convoy for “obstructing traffic and causing an accident.” The officer clarified that the driver was detained at the counter but released on bail the following day, mentioning that the car documents were seized due to the absence of a guarantor for his bail.
Emmanuel Innocent Akwe, a media aide to Governor Sule, acknowledged the occurrence but contended that the driver was at fault. However, Akwe declined to provide further details on the matter.
As the involved parties present conflicting narratives, an investigation into the alleged assault and detainment of Stanley Akoza by the Governor’s security team has surfaced, prompting scrutiny of the incident’s details and implications. With divergent perspectives emerging, the veracity of the claims amid the collision on the Abuja-Keffi expressway remains to be substantiated.
